Coping Skills
We all have our ways of dealing with symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression.
At times, we can rely on unhelpful coping mechanisms, like depending on substances, socially withdrawing, or feeling overwhelmed by our emotions.
Coping skills are life strategies and methods that help us be more resilient in the face of change, life stress, or a sudden and traumatic loss in our lives.
Coping skills can look differently for everyone, depending on your age and life circumstances, but they are essential to helping you manage stress and maintain positive mental health.
Working with me, we can explore what has and has not worked for you in the past, and uncover some of your default coping response mechanisms. These may or may not have helped you in the past – maybe you’re looking to change some unhealthy mechanisms, while still getting the feeling of safety and security that comes with depending on these mechanisms (e.g., drinking alcohol).
Through a mindfulness-based and trauma-informed approach, lets work together and collaboratively explore and build positive coping mechanisms that can help you build resilience, adapt to stress better, and have more healthier responses, while also honouring your emotions and the desire for safety and security.
