Asperger’s Syndrome
Asperger’s Syndrome (AS), a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental disorder. Young people with Asperger’s Syndrome have a difficult time relating to others socially and their behaviour and thinking patterns can be rigid and repetitive.
You may have a child, youth, or adult in the family living with AS or AS-related symptoms. You may also be looking for counselling as someone with Asperger’s! With this neurodevelopmental disorder, you recognize that there are unique strengths and challenges to displaying emotion, self-regulation, socializing with others, and maintaining proper self-care.
I have experience working with Children and Youth on the Autism Spectrum, and used Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapy to help improve functioning, self-regulation, and build emotional resilience with previous clients.
By incorporating my training in ABA therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), I can help you or your family member work through the unique contexts and requirements of someone with Asperger’s Syndrome. With patience, time, and skill, we can work to better understand and improve upon some of the unique difficulties you may be facing, and build supportive mental health and resiliency-building tools along the way.
We can work collaboratively to work with some of the downsides of AS, while also working with the unique strengths of you, or your family member.
